LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs, Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has disposed of the bail plea of an accused Muhammad Waris who is involved in smuggling of cell phones.

Earlier, the court of Chaudary Ameer Muhammad Khan sent him to jail on judicial remand of 14 days. The accused moved his petition to get bail after his arrest from the court but on Monday the customs court rejected his bail plea on strong arguments against the case.

Sources told Customs Today that the customs authorities arrested Muhammad Waris at Allama Iqbal International Airport when he tried to smuggle mobile phones from Sharjah.

The customs officials checked his luggage and recovered a number of mobile phones of different models. The customs team arrested Waris from the airport for further proceedings and legal action against him.

Meanwhile, the customs high ups have strictly directed the subordinate staff to take stern action against smugglers, especially those who are using green channels for clearance of smuggled items.
