Customs Court rejects bail plea of mobile phones’ smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has rejected the bail plea of an alleged mobile phone smuggler who was in jail on 14 days judicial remand.

According to sources of Customs Today accused Rizwan Ahmad was arrested by the customs authorities at Lahore airport upon his arrival from a Gulf state. During the search of luggage the Customs staff recovered 141 mobile phones at airport. The mobile phones were of different brands, including Samsung, Apple and Huawei.

As per the details, Rizwan Ahmad was remanded to the custody of Customs Investigation and Prosecution for interrogation.

Special Judge Chaudhary Ameer Muhammad Khan granted seven-day physical remand of the suspect which was expired and after that court send him to jail for judicial trial.

The customs authorities had registered a case against him and produced him before the court where they asked for judicial remand of the accused which was approved by the court.
