Customs Court rejects FIA’s plea to grant physical remand of alleged cloth smuggler

LAHORE: The Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has rejected the request of the Federal Investigation Agency Gujranwala to grant physical remand of a cloth smuggler.

Sources told Customs Today that Sarfraz Ahmad son of Muhammad Akbar Sheikh was arrested by the FIA in a case of cloth smuggling from Afghanistan.

The FIA presented him before the court and asked physical remand of the suspect for further investigations. Customs Judge Chaudary Ameer Muhammad Khan, after hearing the arguments of the investigation team, rejected the request and asked them to register this case in Customs Sambrial from where he was arrested.

Sources also said that Sarfraz Ahmad was involved in smuggling of cloth and other items from Afghanistan through KPK and Balochistan. He has established a strong network in all big cities.
