Customs Court release alleged currency smuggler on bail

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling released a suspect who was allegedly attempted to smuggle currency amounting to $1.3 million to Dubai.

Accused Muhammad Liaqat was arrested from the Allama Iqbal International Airport following the recovery of foreign currency from his possession. He was trying to smuggle the currency to Dubai through a private airline.

Sources informed that some internal persons of Lahore airport were also involved to facilitate him for smuggling of currency. A case under the Pakistan Customs Act, 1969 was registered against the accused in Lahore.

The court ordered the accused to submit surety bonds of Rs 200,000 to avail the bail. It may mention here that the accused has also got bail from session court and Lahore High Court (LHC).
