Customs Court remands alleged cloth smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has sent a suspect allegedly involved in smuggling of foreign origin cloth on physical remand for four days.

An accused Muhammad Ali was booked by the Faisalabad Customs Intelligence when he was transporting a consignment of Korean and Indian made cloth loading on a truck.

During the raid, the team intercepted the truck and recovered 4,185 kilogram of cloth worth Rs 2.3 million. The driver was asked to show documents regarding the legal import of the items but he remained failed to do the same.

Therefore, the officials confiscated the cloth, which was allegedly being smuggled from Afghanistan through Chaman causing loss to national kitty of Rs 700,000 and also impounded the truck.
