Customs court reserves verdict in cellular phones, liquor smuggling case

KARACHI: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling on Tuesday reserved its verdict on bail plea of a suspect in a case pertaining to the smuggling of cellular phones and foreign liquor into the country.

Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi heard arguments from defence and prosecution sides and reserved the verdict to be pronounced during the course of the day. However, the decision was not pronounced.

Pakistan International Airlines staffer had filed the bail application, seeking his release on bail. According to the prosecution, Fida Hussain was caught with 1,264 mobile phones and nine bottles of liquor at the Jinnah International Airport on November 25.

Fida was intercepted at the arrival hall of the airport and when the customs officers checked his bags nine bottles of liquor and 1,264 mobile phones were recovered from them. Subsequently, Fida was taken into custody and an FIR was registered against him.
