Customs Court seeks challan against two Chinese nationals for clearing goods on forged documents

KARACHI: Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi on Monday directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit a final charge sheet against Chinese nationalsl, Zhong Zhongmin, the Country Manager and Li Chonhong, Deputy Country Manager of M/s BGP (Pakistan) International. The suspects were booked for causing a loss of Rs 513 million to the government exchequer by submitting forged documents during clearance of surveying equipment.

During the hearing, the investigation officer produced the suspects before the court and informed that an FIR No. 33/2017 has been registered against M/s BGP (Pakistan) International, a Chinese oil and gas surveying company, its clearing agent M/s IMT Co, customs officials and others on the allegation of preparing/ submitting fake/bogus corporate guarantee for clearance of their surveying equipment worth Rs 677 million.

He further informed that the Chinese firm, its clearing agent, Customs officials and others have been named in the FIR registered by the FIA. The nvestigation officer stated that prosecution completed investigation from the suspects, therefor, prosecution does not further need them and, therefore, court may send them to jail on judicial remand.

Earlier, court sent Chinese nationals namely Zhong Zhongmin and Li Chonhong to jail and directed jail authorities to produce them before the court on next date of hearing. Court also directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge sheet in this case within reasonable period.

Case was registered for violation of under section 156 sub section 14A, 82 read with 32-A of Jinnah International Airport Karachi.
