Customs Court seeks challan of whisky smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects namely Nabeela, Hamal Murad and Khalil Ahmed to Central Jail on judicial remand and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit challan on next date of hearing, suspects were booked in a case of smuggling 150 bottles Johnnie Walker Black Lable brand whisky.

On March 1, 2019, investigation officer produced the above-mentioned suspects before the court and informed that on credible information, customs team intercepted a Corolla Saloon car bearing registration no AKM-458 model 2006 and recovered 150 bottles whisky each one liter.

He further informed the court that suspects were asked to produce any lawful documents, however, they claimed but did not produce any lawful documents, therefore, it was established that said whisky has been brought into the country through unauthorized route without payment of duty and taxes therefore, above-mentioned whisky and car were taken into custody and accused were arrested.

After the hearing, court sent them to jail and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge sheet against them on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under Section 6,7,22 of Control of Narcotics Substances Act, 1997 punishable under Section 9 © of Control of Narcotics Substance Act, 1997 and other related laws.
