Customs Court seeks charge sheet against M/s A.K Marketing

KARACHI: The Customs Court on Saturday directed Rab Nawaz Ahmed Matiana, Deputy Commissioner-IR Audit Unit 3, Zone-III, LTU, Karachi to complete the investigation and submit final charge sheet against suspect namely Yaqoob Haji Karim, partner of M/s A.K Marketing Karachi, who was booked in a case of obstructing an income tax authority in discharge function under the ordinance.

During the hearing, investigation officer informed that court that Yaqoob Haji Karim is a partner of the Association of persons M/s A.K Marketing which is the retail arms of the Al-Karm Group and is engaged in the retail trade through specialized store. He also submitted the complainant above named has been denied access to the machines and software maintaining data records pertaining to the business of M/s A.K Marketing which complainant was entitled to be granted in terms of powers vested by the section 177 of the income tax ordinance, 2001.

Investigation officer further informed the court that the said act of the accused is an offence liable to prosecution under sections 196 and 199 read with section 200 and 201 of the ordinance, therefore, court may request for taking cognizance against above mentioned suspect and complainant may also be allowed to add/alter any ground during the course of hearing/process of prosecution proceedings against the accused.

After the hearing, court directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge sheet against him on next date of hearing.
