Customs Court seeks charge sheet against suspects in diesel smuggling case

KARACHI: Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has directed investigation officer to file final charge sheet against suspects namely Muhammad Rafiq Khan and Muhammad Tahir who are currently in Central Jail on judicial remand in a diesel smuggling case.

According to the prosecution, a customs team intercepted an oil tanker loaded with 15,000 liter of Iranian-origin high speed diesel for illegal disposal in local market.

Earlier, the investigation officer had produced the suspects before the court and informed that the prosecution had completed the investigation and the court might send the suspects to Central Jail Karachi on judicial remand.

After his arguments, the court sent them to jail and directed the investigation officer to submit charge sheet against them on the next date of hearing. The court also directed the jail authorities to produce the suspects on the next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against suspects for violation of under section 2 (s) 16, 157 (2) & 178 of the Customs Act 1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) & (89) of sub-section (1) read with sub-section (2) of the section 156 of the Customs Act 1969.
