Customs Court seeks charge sheet against suspects booked in diesel smuggling case

KARACHI: Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has directed investigation officer to complete the investigation and submit a charge sheet against the suspects namely Muhammad Rafiq Khan and Muhammad Tahir . The suspects were book in a case of smuggled/ non-duty paid 15,000 liters Iranian-origin high speed diesel.

During the hearing, the investigation officer produced the suspects before the court and informed that officials of the customs department intercepted an oil tanker loaded with diesel for its illegal disposal at the local market.

The investigation officer further informed the court that prosecution completed investigation from suspect and during investigations case was proven against them, therefore, court may send them to Central Jail Karachi on judicial remand.

After his arguments, court sent them to jail and directed investigation officer to produce charge sheet against suspects on next date of hearing, court also directed jail authorities to produce above mentioned suspects on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against suspects for violation of under section 2 (s) 16, 157 (2) & 178 of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) & (89) of sub-section (1) read with sub-section (2) of the section 156 of the Customs Act, 1969.
