Customs Court seeks charge sheet of cloth smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer to complete investigation against financiers, abettors and others including owner of 2611 rolls of assorted brand and colors of ladies and gents’ cloth worth Rs 10,623,506 smuggling case.
On 8 January 2020, investigation officer submitted first information report (FIR) and informed that on an actionable information, customs officials reached at the corridors of Designer Mall, Tariq Road Karachi where customs team asked the ‘chowkidar’ of the said market to open the market door but he refused.
He further informed that meanwhile some suspicious movement of persons and vehicles was observed around the said premises, as per existed specific information regarding presence and shifting of smuggling/non-duty paid foreign origin cloth, therefore, after completing the legal formalities in the presence of ‘musheers’ of above-mentioned goods were recovered by customs officials.

Investigation officer further said that saboteur elements started gathering and blocked the entrance and exit of the said premises and also they started firing at the customs staff and laborers, resultantly the customs staff also had to start aerial firing in their defense and to avoid happening of any untoward incident and to disperse the miscreants.
