Customs Court seeks complete challan of suspect in currency smuggling scam

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has once again directed the Sialkot customs investigation and prosecution team to complete and submit the investigation challan against a currency smuggling suspect.

During the hearing of the case against Irfan Altaf and Adnan, the Customs Court asked the investigation team to submit a complete challan during the next hearing. Earlier in the last hearing, the court had directed the team to complete the challan but the customs team could not prepare the investigation challan against the accused. The Customs Court has directed the team to complete it up to the next hearing next week.

Earlier, Irfan Altaf was arrested by the customs authorities with foreign currency worth Rs 37 million. The officials recovered around 180,000 euro and 58,000 dirham, which he intended to smuggle to Sharjah, UAE.

In this case, three accomplices named Adnan Afzal, Imran Khan and Muhammad Irfan were released by Customs Court on bail, while the main accused, Irfan Altaf is still on judicial remand.
