Customs Court seeks final arguments on pre-arrest & acquittal appeals in Q-Mobile smuggling case

KARACHI: Customs Court directed both sides’ counsels to complete their arguments on interim pre-arrest bail petitions under section 265K for acquittal filed by suspects namely Zeeshan Akhtar, Chief Executive Officer of M/s Digicom, Muhammad Ammad, admin manager of M/s Digicom Trading Pvt Ltd and others, who were booked in two different cases of attempting to smuggled assorted (Q-Mobile) mobile phones and other goods in the garb of LED lights (bulbs).

On August 26, 2019 counsel for suspects and customs department appeared before the court and argued their case and sought further time to complete their final arguments, after the hearing, court granted time and directed them to complete their arguments on next date of hearing.

According to the interim charge sheet, on a credible information, anti-smuggling organization (HQ0 MCC (P) Karachi raided at Sadder Central Plaza, Karachi and found that one container no-KKFU-72555703 loaded on a trawler no: TLT-374 was parked there, search was carried out accordingly in presence two musheers which revealed the presence of huge quantity of mobile phones stuffed in the aforesaid container.

Court was informed that subsequently the said container loaded on the vehicle was brought at ASO/HQ, thorough search was conducted in the presence of said musheers, resultantly recovered 27200 Q-Mobile phones, 35790 other assorted brands and models mobile phones, 531 Amazon Tablets which were smuggled by the suspect in the garb of LED lights, tentative value of the smuggled goods is Rs284, 470,000 and suspect evaded the duty and taxes in the tune of Rs103,702,340 approximately.

In another case, on a credible information, a team of Intelligence and Investigation-BFR raided at Bungalow no 107/1 Lane 10, Kheaban-e-Rahan DHA Karachi and during the search recovered 78,160 foreign origin mobile phones from 3908 cartoons and arrested Muhammad Ammad who introduced himself as admin manager of M/S Digicom Trading Pvt Ltd.
