Customs Court seeks final charge-sheet in betel nuts smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer to complete investigations and submit final charge-sheet against suspects namely Abdul Ghaffar son of Taj Muhammad and Yousaf son of Shamsuddin, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle 4,463 kilograms betel nuts and 140 crates apple.

On October 23, 2018, investigation officer appeared before the court and sought further time to submit final charge-sheet; therefore, the court extended bail of the above-mentioned suspects and directed him to submit final charge-sheet on next date of hearing.

According to the FIR, on credible information, a team of Pakistan Coast Guards intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration number TKM-910 and recovered 4463 betel nuts and 140 crates apples from their possession and during the investigation, accused accepted that they were trying to smuggle said goods from Quetta to Karachi.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against them for violation of under Section 2 (s), 156(2), 157 (2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clauses 8 & 89 of Section 156 (i) ibid read with Section 3 (i) of Imports & Exports Control Act, 1950.
