Customs Court seeks final charge sheet of Suzuki Sierrra jeep smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit final charge sheet against suspects namely Jacob Jahangir son of Jahangir Saleem and Sheeba Jacob Jahangir wife of Jacob Jahangir, who were booked in a case smuggle/ non-duty paid Suzuki Sierrra jeep bearing registration number E-703 1300 CC.

On Saturday, investigation officer appeared before the court and sought further time to submit final challan against the above mentioned suspects, therefore, court granted time and directed him to make sure submitting final charge sheet on next date of hearing.

Earlier, investigation officer had submitted interim charge sheet against above mentioned suspects and informed the court that on credible information, staff of the Anti-Smuggling Organization intercepted smuggle/ non-duty paid Suzuki Sierrra jeep bearing registration number E-703 1300 CC Model 1996 having tampered chassis valuing Rs1,444,589.

He further informed the court that suspects Jacob Jahangir son of Jahangir Saleem and Sheeba Jacob Jahangir wife Jacob Jahangir are involved evasion of duty and taxes in the tune of Rs1,391,067 to the national exchequer. He said that prosecution is trying its best to arrest the above mentioned suspects.

After hearing, court had accepted interim charge sheet against the above mentioned suspects and directed him to arrest and produce them before the court on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) 156 (2) 157 (2) and 178 of customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses 8 & 89 of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 3 (1) of Import and Export Control Act, 1950.
