Customs Court seeks progress report in smuggling of latest brand mobile phones case

KARACHI: The Customs Court directed the investigation officer of Collectorate of Customs Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) to arrest the culprits and complete investigation against those who are allegedly involved in smuggling of Apple 1 Phone 12 Pro Max etc valuing of Rs109,057, 39 recovered from JIAP Karachi.

On 20 May 2021, investigation officer submitted first information report (FIR) before the court and informed that on an actionable information, customs officials was mounted to nab passengers involved, meanwhile Emirates flight EK 606 arrived and the passengers were in the process of COVID-19 screening test at satellite, meanwhile a suspicious polythene shopping bag of Dubai DFS was located by the sepoy Suleman Gill in the bathroom area behind the immigration counters without any identification and airline tag, he informed the undersigned about the suspicious polythene shopping bag of Dubai DFS.

He further informed the court that during the search of said bag, customs officials found 50 Nos Apple IPhone 12 Pro max, 04 No Apple IPhone 12 Pro and 04 No of Apple IPhone 12 tentative value of Rs109, 057, 39 which were unclaimed and no body to came for claimed.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2(s) & 16 of the customs act, 1969, punishable under clauses (8) (i) (a) & (89) of sub-section (i) and sub-section (2) of section 156 ibid, read with section 3(i) and 3 (iii) of the imports & exports (control) act, 1950 and other related sections.

After the hearing, the court took FIR into court record and directed the investigation officer to complete the investigation and submit a progress report for the next date of hearing.
