Customs Court sends 2 diesel smugglers on judicial remand

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Faiz Rasool Rashdi on Friday sent two suspects, Samad Khan and Allah Noor Suleman Khail, on a 14-day judicial remand in a case of attempting to smuggle 5,000 liters of Iranian diesel.

On Friday, the investigation officer produced the suspects before the court and submitted that both were trying to smuggle 5,000 liters of Iranian diesel. The investigation officer requested the court for further physical remand; however, the court rejected his request and sent them on judicial remand.

According to the FIR, on August 14, 2016, Bedford Truck bearing Registration No E-9315 traveling from Gadani to Karachi stopped at Pakistan Coast Guards check post. Driver of the Bedford Truck, Samad Khan, and owner of the truck Allah Noor Suleman Khail were asked show documents regarding legal import of the diesel but they could not produce the same.

After the formalities, the truck approximately valued at Rs1.5 million and 5000 liters of Iranian diesel worth Rs 390,000 were impounded and both accused persons were arrested.

The case was registered by complainant Fazal Ahmed, Pakistan Coast Guards Korangi, Karachi, on violation of Section 2 (s) and 161 punishable under Section 156 (1)(8) and (89) of the Customs Act, 1969.
