Customs court sends currencies smuggler to jail on three-day judicial remand

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved a judicial remand of an accused arrested by the Pakistan Customs Preventive of the Allama IqbaI International Airport when he foiled an attempt of smuggling of foreign currencies into China.

The Customs Investigation and Prosecution team had presented him before the court and asked for the physical remand for further investigation.

The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved a three-day physical remand of the accused.

Customs Court Special Judge Tahir Sabir directed the investigation team to present him before the court after the completion of the physical remand for further proceedings. On Wednesday, customs team had presented the accused before the court and asked the court to send him to jail on judicial remand.

The Customs Preventive apprehended the accused while making an attempt to smuggle the currencies from Lahore into China. The customs preventive team had intercepted the accused at the airport and recovered a big number of currency notes of different countries.

The customs authorities have registered a case against him under Pakistan Customs Act-1969.

The currencies seized include 1,500 American dollars and 10,000 Yuan which were recovered from accused Shahid Waqas. Shahid Waqas is a resident of Lahore. He was travelling by Shaheen Airlines from Lahore to Guangzhou, China.
