HSD smuggling: Customs Court sends suspect on physical remand

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspect namely Ehsanullah son of Inam Khan, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggling non-duty paid 14,000 liters High Speed Diesel (HSD), to customs lock-up on physical remand.

On Wednesday, Investigation Officer Azhar Malik produced the above-mentioned suspect before the court and informed that on credible information, the customs team intercepted Hino dumper bearing registration number TAL-204 and recovered 14,000 liters HSD from gravel (crushed) and concealed in the false/fabricated tank made inside the dumper.

He further argued that the case was registered against suspect and others on charges of smuggling oil and for violation under section 2 (s) 156 (2) 157 (2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses 8 & 89 of section 156 (i) read with section 3 (i) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950.

The investigation officer requested the court that prosecution needs further investigation from said suspect; therefore, the court may send him back to Customs department on physical remand.

After hearing, the court sent him to Customs department and directed the investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.
