Customs Court sends suspect on physical remand involved in removal of pay order

KARACHI: Acting Judge of the Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Syed Arshad Noor Khan has sent a suspect, Mohsin son of Abdul Ghaffar, to the customs department on physical remand for seven days. The suspect was arrested for removing a pay order illegally.

During the hearing, Investigation Officer Muhammad Qadeer Khan, Appraising Officer Customs Collectorate of Appraisement East Customs House Karachi, produced the suspect before the court and informed that he was arrested on June 13, 2017. He said that the suspect was involved in illegal removal of pay order bearing no: 2429168 dated 03/11/2016 of Rs 2,361,259 issued by MCB Bank Karachi, which was received from the securities section of the collectorate and deposited the same into the account of an unauthorized importer Muhammad Rehman Khan, proprietor of M/s Khan Traders.

He submitted that prosecution needs his physical remand for further investigation and arrest of the absconders , therefore, the court may grant his physical remand for seven days.

After his arguments, court sent back him to customs department on physical remand and directed investigation officer produce him on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against accused in violation of section 32-A of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses 14A of section 156 (1) of the Customs Act, 1969.
