Customs Court sends suspect to jail booked in gold smuggling

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspect namely Muhammad Junaid son of Abdul Sattar Jamal to Central Jail Karachi on judicial remand, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non duty paid gold .

Investigation officer produced the above mentioned suspect before the court and informed that at the International Departure Hall, Jinnah International Airport Karachi inspector Airport Security Force (ASF) approached the SPS I/C shift Pakistan Customs with the custody of said passenger holding British passport leaving for Dubai by Emirates Airlines.

Investigation officer further informed the court that during the manual checking which resulted in the recovery of 1277 grams gold jewellery worth Rs5,746,500 and he was asked to produce lawful documents, however, he failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, he was arrested and above mentioned gold also was seized by the officials.

After the hearing, court sent him to jail on judicial remand and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge sheet against him on next date of hearing. Court also directed jail authorities to produce suspect on next date of hearing before the court without fail.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) 16, 139 of the Customs Act, 1969, punishable under clause (8) (89) & (70) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 3 (iii) of Import and Export (Control) Act, 1950 & baggage rules notified vide SRO-666(1)/2006 dated 28/06/2006.
