Customs Court sends suspect to jail in HSD smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspect namely Ehsanullah son of Inam Khan to Central Jail Karachi and directed investigation officer to complete investigations and submit charge-sheet against suspect, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 14,000 liters high speed diesel (HSD).

On Wednesday, investigation officer Azhar Malik produced the above-mentioned suspect before the court and informed that on credible information, customs officials intercepted Hino dumper bearing registration number TAL-204 and recovered 14,000 liters HSD from gravel (crushed) and concealed in the false/fabricated tank made inside the dumper.

He further argued that case was registered against suspect and others for charges of smuggling said oil for violation of under section 2 (s) 156 (2) 157 (2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses 8 & 89 of section 156 (i) read with section 3 (i) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950.

Investigation officer further argued that prosecution has completed investigation from the above-mentioned suspect and if court sent him to jail than he has no objection.

After hearing, the court sent him to jail and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit final charge-sheet on next date of hearing.
