Customs Court sends suspect to jail in mis-declaration, copyright case

KARACHI: Custom Court Acting Judge Sohail Akbar has sent a suspect, Shah Rukh Tahir, CEO of M/s Barry International (Private) Limited, to Central Jail Karachi on a judicial remand and directed the investigation officer to submit a final charge sheet in a case of mis-declaration and violation of copyright against him.

During the hearing, the investigation officer, FIA Inspector M Rashid Bhutti appeared and submitted an application for a three-day remand of the accused under section 167 and stated that he was admitted to a hospital and was not in a position to appear before the court. He also produced the accused’s medical certificate, therefore, the court sent the accused to jail on judicial remand.

The investigation officer submitted the interim charge sheet along with an application, seeking further time to submit a final charge sheet. Therefore, the court allowed his application and 15 days’ time granted for the final charge sheet.

According to the prosecution, a case was registered against the suspect under section 15, 156 (1) (9) customs act 1969 read with section 66, 66 A, 71 of copyright ordinance 1962.
