Customs Court sends suspect to jail involved in diesel smuggling case

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has sent a suspect namely Abdul Samad to Central Jail on judicial remand. The suspect was booked for attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 20,000 liter of Iranian high speed diesel worth Rs 1,540,000.

During the hearing, investigation officer produced the suspect before the court and informed that a customs team intercepted a suspected Hino trailer bearing registration number TLR-071, which was heading toward Karachi from Hub Chowki. Upon checking, the team found 20,000 liters Iranian origin smuggled non-duty paid diesel.

After his arguments, court sent the suspect to jail and directed the jail authorities to produce him in the court on the next date of hearing. The court also directed the investigation officer to submit a charge sheet against the suspect on the next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against suspect for violation of under section 2 (s) 16, 157 (2) of the Customs Act 1969, punishable under section (1) read with sub-section (2) of section 156 ibid.
