LAHORE: The Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has granted a 14-day physical remand of two accused arrested in smuggling of different items worth Rs30million.
According to details available to Customs Today, two accused namely Muhammad Amir and Muhammad Naeem had been presented before the customs court for their physical remand that had been approved by the honorable court on Monday.
After the completion of physical remand, they were again presented before the court. The customs investigation team told the court that they have completed the initial investigation, so the court can send them to jail on judicial trial. The customs court did them to jail on judicial remand of 14 days.
They were arrested in an attempt of smuggling of flavors, cigars, cigarettes, betel leaves and other items. They were booked by the customs intelligence when customs took action against them on a tip-off.
The customs team raided a warehouse in Lahore and recovered hundreds of kilogram of smuggling goods. The customs team registered a case against them under Pakistan Customs Act 1969. The customs investigation and prosecution team had presented them before the customs and taxation court and asked for their five-day physical remand on Monday. On the request of the customs investigation team, special judge of the customs court, Tahir Sabir, handed them over to the customs team for three days. The customs court also told the customs team to complete the investigation and present them before the court after the completion of physical remand.
The sources also told CT that they had threatened the team of customs intelligence with dire consequences. Now the customs court has approved their judicial remand for 14 days.
