Customs Court sends suspected woman smuggler to jail on judicial remand

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has sent a woman suspect, Samina Rafiq wife of Rafiq Ahmed, to Central Jail Karachi on judicial remand. She was booked for attempting to smuggle mobile phones and auto parts from Dubai to Karachi.

During the hearing, of case, investigation officer produced the suspect before the court and informed that on a credible information, the customs officials intercepted Samina Rafiq and recovered 50 Motorola phones  and 5 kilogram auto parts worth Rs 550,000.

According to the investigation officer when she was asked to produce legal documents of the goods, she failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after formalities, the woman was arrested and goods were seized by Model Customs Collectorate Customs House Karachi.

After the hearing, the court sent her to jail and directed jail authorities to produce her before the court on the next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered in violation of section 2(s) 16 and 139 of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) & 161 of the baggage rules, 2006 notified vide SRO-666(1)/2006 dated 28/06/2006 and Import & Export (Control) Act, 1950.
