Customs Court sends convict to jail due to non-payment of fine

KARACHI: Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has granted “C” class to the accused namely Ahmed Chaudhry son of  Yaqoob Hussain who is going through a simple imprisonment for one year due to non-payment of fine. He was booked in a tax evasion case.

On March 30, 2017, the accused was convicted by this court under section 156 (1) (14) (14-A) of customs act, 1969 and is sentenced already undergone period (15 days) and imposed a fine of Rs 200, 000. If the fine amount is not paid the accused shall suffer simple imprisonment for further one year.

During the hearing, the court was informed that the accused did not pay the fine amount, therefore, accused will stay in jail for one year.

Court mentioned in its order that “this is to authorize and require you, the said superintendent to receive the said accused into your custody in the said jail, together with this warrant and he carry the aforesaid sentence into execution according to law, however, the conviction is awarded ‘c” class.
