Customs Court sends suspects on physical remand involved in gold smuggling

KARACHI: The Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi sent suspects namely Muhammad Imran son of Muhammad Farooq Patel, Anila Muhammad Imran wife of Muhammad Imran, Maheen Patel daughter of Muhammad Imran to customs department on physical remand till August 22, 2017 who were booked in a case of smuggled gold and memory cards valuing Rs25,485,880.

Court also directed investigation officer to produce them on next date of hearing along with progress report.

During the hearing, investigation officer produced the above mentioned suspects before the court and informed that on credible information, officials of the customs department intercepted them at Jinnah International Airport Karachi, who were coming from Dubai, and recovered gold jewellery 4900 grams valuing Rs27,785,000 and 24500 memory cards valuing Rs27,00,880.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2(s) and 16 of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses (8) (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with baggage rules notified vide SRO-666(1)/2006 dated 28/06/2006 further section 3 (iii) of Import & Export (Control) Act 1950.
