Customs Court sentences gold smuggler to jail, imposes Rs 2 million fine

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has sentenced a gold smuggler to jail for one month and imposed a fine of Rs 2 million.

As per details, Customs Court Special Judge Chaudhary Ameer Muhammad Khan heard the case pertaining to the smuggling of four kilogram of gold to United Arab Emirates. The Customs Investigation and Prosecution submitted complete challan against the accused named Abdul Basit along with proofs.

It may mention here that smuggler Abdul Basit was booked by the Customs authorities at Lahore airport while he was making an attempt to smuggle four kilogram gold to Gulf state.

Another accused of the case, Taoufeeq Butt is on post-arrest bail, while investigation against him is underway.
