LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has received complete investigation challan of a case filed against a suspect who was arrested by the customs authorities from Allama Iqbal International airport while making an attempt to smuggle cell phones from China to Lahore.
Sources told Customs Today that Naveed Bhatti was arrested by the Customs Preventive team after recovering 170 android mobile phones of assorted types from his luggage. The passenger was coming from China.
As per the sources, on suspicion, the customs authorities intercepted Naveed Bhatti while he was using Green Channel and asked him to produce legal documents regarding import of cell phones but he failed to produce any legal documents regarding possession of these cell phones.
The mobile phones were hidden in bottles of water which the passenger claimed that he brought that water from Saudi Arabia, it was added.
The sources said that the total value of the mobile phones has been estimated at Rs 5 million. Customs authorities after confiscating the mobiles had registered a case and started further investigations. The sources said that proceedings against the above said accused will be started in the coming week.
