Customs court submits investigation challan of cell phones smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has received an investigation challan of an accused booked by the customs authorities at the Allama Iqbal International Airport while making an attempt to smuggle cell-phones from China into Lahore.

As per sources of Customs Today, Naveed Bhatti was arrested by the Customs Preventive after they seized 170 assorted android mobile-phones from his luggage at the Lahore airport. The passenger was coming from China, sources told Customs Today.

As per sources, the customs authorities intercepted the accused, Naveed Bhatti, while he was using green channel. He was asked if he had anything illegal. The mobile-phones were hidden into the bottles of the water which the passenger claimed that he had brought from Saudi Arabia, it was added.

The sources said the total value of the mobile-phones has been estimated at Rs05million. The customs authorities, confiscating the mobiles, registered a case and started further investigation.

Meanwhile, the Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has extended the judicial remand of an accused who was apprehended from Lahore with a truck loaded with costly tyres. The worth of the confiscated tyres is Rs05million. The accused was booked when customs intelligence team intercepted the truck which was coming from Quetta. The impounding took place near Thokar Niaz Baig.

The tyres recovered by customs team included costly tyres of Pajero, Mazada trucks and other vehicles. Different brands of tyres were also recovered from the truck. The tyres were being carried to Lahore for a businessman named Matiur Rehman.

The customs team produced the accused before the court of Chaudhary Ameer Muhammad Khan from where the judge handed him over to customs team for interrogation on a four-day physical remand and then he was sent to jail for judicial trial.
