Customs court takes FIR into record against M/s Overseas Transit Agency Ltd for smuggling of vehicles

KARACHI: The customs court directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit progress report against Nayyar Rafi, Saad Ahmed Qureshi, Rafi Ahmed Qureshi, Saeed Ahmed Qureshi, directors of M/s Overseas Transit Agency Ltd, Akhtar Hussain and others, who were nominated in first information report (FIR) for illegal clearance of two vehicles on same documents beyond legal entitlement of one vehicle in violation of IPO 2020 read with SRO 52(I)/ 2019.

On 17 February 2021, investigation officer informed the court that consequent upon an information to the Collectorate, post release audit of released vehicles, it has been observed that one overseas Pakistani accused Akhtar Hussain had imported two vehicles under personal baggage scheme and their authorized clearing agents had filed goods declaration and the vehicle was released accordingly.

He further informed the court that if was found that he had shared PRCs and verification of the PRCs received from Banks thereof with another goods declaration on the same documents, and after the investigation, it was established that accused persons had committed a mis-declaration and submitted false document in order to avoid national import policy order 2016 thus violated section 16, 17, 32, 79 & 192 of the customs act, 1969 read with imported policy order 2020.

He further stated that first information report was lodged accordingly for in-depth investigation of the crime in order to bring the culprits to book accordingly. After the hearing, court takes FIR into court record and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit progress report for next date of hearing.
