Customs Court to announce verdict of Rs 20m currency smuggling scam today

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has concluded the hearing of a case pertaining to the smuggling of Rs 20 million. The court will announce its verdict on Saturday today.

Earlier, the decision was adjourned from February 12 to 23 and then it was rescheduled for March 5.

As per details, a case was registered against a lady smuggler Rahat Shahzadi. She was intercepted by Customs authorities at Lahore airport when she was attempting to smuggle Rs 20 million of foreign and local currency to Dubai  in 2013.

Now the Customs investigation and prosecution has completed interim challan against the suspect which was submitted before the court.

The Customs Court has also recorded the statements of witnesses and completed the judicial trial of the suspect and concluded hearing of the case. The verdict will be announced today.
