LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has rejected a bail plea of an accused in the smuggling of currency.
Accused, identified as a Chinese citizen Hu Shang, was booked at the Lahore Airport while making an attempt to smuggle the foreign currency.
On last Wednesday, an investigation and prosecution team of the customs preventive had presented the accused before the court of Tahir Sabir when it rejected his bail plea.
Earlier, Pakistan Customs Preventive and Airport Security Force arrested the Chinese passenger for alleged currency-smuggling at the Lahore airport.
The foreign national, who was going to China by an international airline, was held during a checking at the Allama Iqbal International Airport following the recovery of foreign currency worth 12,000 dollars. The accused had been shifted to an unknown place for interrogation in the custody of the officials of Pakistan Customs while a case registered against him.
According to revised rules of the State Bank of Pakistan regarding the foreign exchange, a passenger can carry up to $10,000 or equivalent notes of another currency while going abroad.
The Pakistan Customs, during a last week of October, had presented the accused before the court of customs taxation and anti-smuggling for getting his physical remand for further investigation and prosecution under the Pakistan Customs Act-1969 but the customs court sent him to prison on judicial remand.
