KARACHI: All Pakistan Motorcycles Spare Parts Importers and Dealers Association Chairman Faisal Khalil said on Tuesday that duty on several items has been written wrong in the ruling No 685.

Talking to Customs Today, he said they had written a letter to the Customs Department in this regard, but no action has been taken so far.

Khalil said duty on genuine parts was less, but duty on local parts was more.

“We import raw material. We are not manufacturers. We import B and C quality parts. Fifty cents duty is slapped on parts worth Rs 700. Same duty is charged on parts worth Rs 2,000.”

He said, “Manufacturers import expensive parts and 50 cents duty on their parts is fine, but our parts are small and their prices are also low. But the customs authorities charge 50 cents from us as well. Sometimes we are called commercial importers and sometimes local importers.”

He appealed to the Customs Department to review their demand.
