Customs deputes eight new inspectors to baggage section to overcome shortage of staff: Nisar Ahmad

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Customs have deputed recently passing out inspectors at accompanied Baggage section to full fill the shortage of staff at Islamabad airport, Customs Air Freight Unit Islamabad received Rs.384.72 million extra revenue against assigned revenue collection target for month of November Financial Year 2017-18 under head of all duty taxes. The AFU was assigned revenue collection target of Rs607.72 million under all heads while it was earned Rs991.83 million under heads of all duty taxes during month of November of Financial Year 2017-18.

Additional Collector Nisar Ahmad Phullerwan while talking with Customs Today during an exclusive interview told that there was a huge shortage of inspectors at Accompanied Baggage (AB) side of Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA) Islamabad. The Collector Saeed Khan Jadoon have provided fresh inspectors to AB side of BBIA which to fullfill the gap of shortage of staff.

He said that now all the three shifts at AB section have been completed and due to this positive change the performance of AB section also will be enhanced, he was added that 11 new inspectors had completed their three months training section at MCC Islamabad while out of above said quantity the Collector MCC Islamabad deputed eight fresh inspectors to AB section to perform duties.

He told that during month of November FY17-18 the Customs staff of AB section seized $40,000 from a passenger who was leaving to Switzerland and file FIR against him, he was added that Collector MCC Islamabad have stretched vigilance against the foreign currency smugglers at Islamabad AB section.

Answering to a query the Additional Collector AFU told that during the month of November the AFU showed outstanding performance against assigned revenue target under all heads, he was added that the AFU earned surplus revenue under all heads.

He notify that during month of November the Collectorate as obtain Rs.217.87 million under head of import duty, Rs45.62 million under head of regulatory duty, Rs.18.98 million under head of additional customs duty (CD), Rs.2.29 million under head of miscellaneous fines.  Nisar Ahmad Phullarwan told that during month of November the AFU earned Rs436.75 million under head of sales tax (ST) on imports while AFU received Rs.35.79 million under head of ST on value added (3%), he was added that the AFU was assigned revenue collection target of Rs.251.53 million under head of sales tax for month of November FY17-18.

He told that AFU earned Rs232.36 million under head of withholding tax while it was assigned Rs127.58 million under head of FED, he was added that the AFU earned Rs.232.36 million under the same head against assigned revenue target for month of November FY17-18.
