DHAKA: Customs officials have detained four people at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport after frisking revealed 13 gold bars on two of them.
Assistant Commissioner Shahiduzzaman said the two were passengers of a Bangladesh Biman flight that had arrived in Dhaka from Istanbul via Chittagong on Wednesday afternoon.
During body searches, 12 of the bars were found concealed within the clothes of a woman, who had boarded the plane at Chittagong, he said.
She claimed another passenger of the same flight had asked her to take care of the gold bars.
Customs officials found the 13th bar on that passenger when they searched him.
Shahiduzzaman said the bars, together, weighed about 2.5 kilograms.
He said they were questioning the four detainees, including the woman and her husband, but declined to disclose their identities.
