ISLAMABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate earned Rs 30 million through first auction held on August 29of financial year 2016-17.
According to the details, the first auction of the year was held under the supervision of Assistant Collector Tahir Iqbal Khattak who handled all procedures transparently following the customs laws and collected a handsome amount.
Vehicles surrendered by embassies and UN were also presented for auction along with other non-duty paid vehicles. The customs also presented various goods, including cosmetics, fabric, solar panel, LCDs and other items.
Around three lots of various goods were sold for Rs 5.5, while the department collected Rs 30 million during whole process of auction.
Islamabad Customs Collector Dr. Arslan Subuctageen appreciated the efforts of Assistant Collector Tahir Iqbal Khattak to make this practice successful.
People from different cities like Bakhar, Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Peshawar participated in the auction. The successful bidders paid 25 percent cash amount against buying vehicles and goods. Some participants suggested that auction must be held at big place, as this place is congested.
It may be mentioned here that performance of auction department during last financial year was also good when it contributed Rs 203.71 million collected through seven auctions. Through auction of only non-duty paid vehicles, the Islamabad Customs earned Rs 195.12 million during last fiscal year, while sold other confiscated goods for Rs 8.59 million.
