KARACHI: Regional Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) with the assistance of the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) have impounded methamphetamine (crystal ice) worth Rs10 billion and arrested seven suspects, including five foreigners.
Sources told Customs Today that Customs Intelligence & Investigation team seized 675 kilograms of methamphetamine from the deep-sea fishing boat.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) registered a case against the accused persons and started investigation.
Earlier, Syed Irfan Ali, a spokesman for Pakistan Customs, said that, acting on a tip-off received by the Customs Enforcement Karachi, the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of the Enforcement Collectorate raided the warehouse located in Landhi’s Babar Market and seized 3,200 kilograms of smuggled hazardous health items worth Rs4 million. The seized items have been transferred to the warehouse of the ASO Enforcement. A case has been registered under the Customs Act.
The spokesman said that in line with the Government of Pakistan’s policy against smuggled goods and in pursuance of credible information received by the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, a team conducted a raid on a godown in Ittehad Town.
Customs Enforcement seized more than 1,350 bags (25kg each) of foreign origin prime quality plastic dana from the godown. It was loaded onto eight trucks and shifted to the Collectorate’s warehouse for detailed examination and further legal proceedings. The market value of the recovered item is approximately Rs20 million.
In a separate case, the Customs Enforcement in pursuance of credible information received by the collector of Customs Enforcement conducted a raid on a Godown in Qasba Colony near Manghopir Road from where they have seized more than 4,500 kilograms of Indian origin roasted cashew.
