Customs Export recovers evaded amount of Rs6.26m from M/s Glamour Leather & M/s Amir Kamil Associates

KARACHI: Collector Customs Export Saqif Saeed on Friday recovered evaded amount of Rs6.26 million from M/s Glamour Leather and Handicrafts and M/s Amir Kamil Associates, Karachi.

Sources told Customs Today that during scrutiny of the import data, it was revealed that M/s Glamour Leather and Handicrafts availed undue benefits and concessions by imported a consignment of leather pieces used in coats, paints, gloves, jackets and others leathers items  by misusing SRO 5449. The consignment was cleared through Examiner Raja Ghazanfar  Mukhtar on November 12, 2017.

Sources said that the company was allegedly involved in tax evasion of Rs 2.5 million. The Customs Export started investigations after detecting the tax evasion. The final notice was issued to the company on July 20, 2018 to deposit the evaded amount within 14 days.

After receiving the notice, the management of M/s Glamour Leather and Handicrafts deposited the evaded amount in the official account of the Customs Export on August 9, 2018.

While the management of M/s Amir Kamil Associates, Karachi also cleared Rs 4.21 million amount of taxes and duties. Sources said that M/s Amir Kamil Associates also availed undue benefits and concessions and avoided paying taxes according to the customs bylaws.

This company was imported computer accessories, like mother boards and branded systems. The Customs Export authorities served a final notice to the company on July 23, 2018. The management of M/s Amir Kamil Associates, Karachi deposited the evaded amount after receiving the final notice in this regard.
