Customs Exports collects Rs 18.9m during August

KARACHI: The Customs Exports successfully collected Rs 18.9 million during  the month of August for fiscal year 2017-18 while the Customs Exports generated Rs 14.6 million during the first 20 days of August.

Sources told Customs Today that Customs Exports issued a total of 15 show cause notices out of which 12 final notices were served on defaulter companies during the month of August. The Customs Exports issued show cause notices to two factories in order to collect the evaded tax amount. The customs authorities issued notices to M/s Gul Traders and Export Karachi and M/s Nimra Samad Enterprises Karachi.

M/s Gul Traders and Export Karachi used the wrong Pakistan Custom Tariff heading to get its plastic  consignment cleared in the 3rd August 2017 and caused the national exchequer a loss of Rs 1.6 million.

Sources told that during scrutiny of import data of previous month, the Customs Exports detect that the company used the wrong PCT heading. After detecting the tax evasion, the customs authorities issued a show-cause notice No: 199/2017 to recover the evaded tax amount.

Meanwhile, the Customs Exports uncovered another tax evasion committed by M/s Nimra Samad Enterprises Karachi in aluminum sheets consignment on 5th August. The customs authorities, after a careful investigation, served show-cause notices on the above said companies and asked them for submitting the evaded tax amount within fortnight.

M/s Nimra Samad Enterprises Karachi used the wrong Pakistan Custom Tariff (PCT) heading to get its aluminum sheets items consignment cleared and caused the national exchequer a loss of Rs2.4 million.
