KARACHI: Pakistan Customs Service is adversely facing the shortage of technical staff in almost all of its field formation offices.

Sources in FBR informed Customs Today that the field formation offices of Pakistan Customs including the Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) of Preventive, MCC Appraisement-East, MCC Appraisement-West, Collectorate of Customs Adjudication, Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation and Directorate of Post Clearance Audit are facing serious shortage of technical staff against their sanctioned strength approved by Federal Board of Revenue.

“Almost all field formation offices of Pakistan Customs have less ministerial staff against their sanctioned strength,” sources revealed.

The sources further informed this scribe that the departments are facing shortage of appraisers, examiners, sepoys and other ministerial staff, which is affecting the routine working of those departments. However, the working of Pakistan Customs was increasing with every passing day.

“The Establishment Division-FBR has not recruited ministerial staff for last 26 years,” it maintained.

It is pertinent to mention here that the shortage of manpower in Pakistan Customs particularly in MCC Preventive will certainly be effecting the performance of the department, as most of the SPS, IPS and SPOs would be reaching their time of retirement in next 5 years and absence of technical staff will raise a new challenge for FBR in coming days.
