Customs, FIA directed to prepare new framework for immigration

KARACHI: The government has directed the high-level officers of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Pakistan Customs to prepare a new framework for the immigration purpose.

The shift to prepare a new framework for the immigration came after an American citizen previously deported from Pakistan on charges of espionage was again arrested in Islamabad last Saturday for illegally re-entering the country.

According to the FIA officers, Matthew Barrett an, American citizen, was arrested from a guesthouse in the capital and taken into custody, hours after the immigration officials at the international airport mistakenly granted him entry.

The source informed that, taking a serious note of the mistake the Interior ministry has ordered the inquiry against the people involved in granting the visa and the documentation needed to enter the Pakistani territory. On the other hand, immigration officials at the international airport have been suspended from their posts.

Now to stop such mistakes and keep the immigration department vigilant at the airports of the country, the government has directed the FIA and Pakistan Customs to prepare a new framework for the immigration purpose.
