FLINT: Two people are in federal custody after authorities claim they were bringing large quantities of heroin and cocaine into the Flint area from Arizona.

The men, ages 27 and 40, were arrested Tuesday, July 28, after investigators from a Drug Enforcement Administration task force conducted surveillance on the pair at a storage unit in Flint, according to an affidavit filed in Flint U.S. District Court.

The names of the suspects are not being released because they have not yet been indicted or arraigned on any charges.

The affidavit claims agents had information that the 27-year-old suspect was allegedly involved in distributing drugs with individuals from Arizona.

Agents began surveillance and allegedly observed a large truck with Arizona plates outside of a Flint storage unit, according to the affidavit. Investigators claim they then saw the 40-year-old suspect load poles and a bucket into a vehicle driven by the 27-year-old suspect.

The 27-year-old suspect allegedly left the storage unit and officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, according to the affidavit. However, authorities claim the suspect fled, eventually crashing the vehicle and fleeing on foot.

Authorities were able to apprehend the 27-year-old suspect and when they searched his vehicle they allegedly discovered approximately 10 kilograms of cocaine and two kilograms of heroin in the pipes and bucket loaded into the vehicle.

The affidavit claims the 40-year-old suspect allegedly drove the truck with Arizona plates to a nearby hotel, where law enforcement officers were able to make contact with him.

The 40-year-old man allegedly told investigators that he was repossessing cars in the Flint area and denied putting pipes into the 27-year-old suspect’s vehicle or ever being at the storage facility.

Another man discovered in the hotel room allegedly told authorities that he had been hired by the 40-year-old suspect to transport the vehicle from Arizona but he had no knowledge of the heroin or cocaine.

Hotel employees allegedly told authorities that the 40-year-old suspect had stayed at the hotel numerous times in the past, but he would never put the room into his own name.

The 40-year-old suspect was scheduled to return to court for a detention hearing Thursday, July 30. The 27-year-old suspect is scheduled to return to court Friday, July 31.
