Customs foils attempt to smuggle smart phones worth Rs 20m

ISLAMABAD: The Customs authorities deputed at Benazir Bhutto International Airport have foiled an attempt to smuggle smart phones from Dubai to Pakistan. The market value of the seized smart phones are Rs 20 million.

Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Collector Shahid Jan received credible information that a huge quantity of smart phones are being smuggled through flight No. EK-612 which is arriving from Dubai. He immediately ordered all his staff to checking the luggage of passengers thoroughly.

The customs authorities searched a bag whose owner was avoiding to take it. During the search, the customs teams recovered 450 mobile phones. After examining the travel documents of owner of bag, it was revealed that its owner was informed that customs authorities in Pakistan got clue of his smuggling attempt so he delayed his journey at the last moments but his baggage was booked.

Customs autorities started further interrogations in this regard.
