MULTAN: Customs Collectorate Multan has foiled an attempt to smuggle imported branded cell phones of worth Rs10.553 million from Rahim Yar Khan International Airport.
Sources informed Customs Today that customs authorities received information that smuggling attempt can be made through Rahim Yar Khan airport and in pursuance of information and directions conveyed by Collector Sarfraz Ahmad Warraich. The Customs staff deputed was directed to remain alert at Rahim Yar Khan airport for the vigilant monitoring of the passengers goods in order to avoid any clearance of suspicious goods.
During the checking of passengers goods arriving from Abu Dhabi by Pakistan International Airline flight no.PK -296, Customs teams focused a suspicious passengers holding two luggage bags and a hand carry shopping bag who was trying to escape the examination at the customs counters availing the green channel facility.
The certain doubts came from the passport of the passenger that he is the resident of Karachi and arriving to Rahim Yar Khan from Abu Dhabi and then customs teams took the luggage in their custody for examination purpose from possession of the passenger who identified him as Muhammad Rizwan son of Aqeelud Din resident who is a resident of mohallah Bara Maiden, Nazimabad Karachi.
Collector Sarfraz Ahmad Warraich told that passenger have concealed the 313 expensive latest model mobile phones of Samsung S7 Edge, Note Edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy Alpha, Note 4 , Blackberry classic,I phone 5 ,Motorola Doroid Turbo , Razor Max, LG Nexus and others were recovered during examination of luggage.
After recovering expansive imported cell phones, Customs teams arrested the passenger Muhammad Rizwan for smuggling attempt.
The customs team who take part in whole operation includes deputy superintendent Riaz Ahmad Raju, inspector Rahim Buksh, inspector Syed Abdullah Zain. Collector Customs Sarfraz Ahmad Warraich has applauded the performance of the staff which has thwarted the attempt of smuggling with alertness.
The recovered goods were seized under section 168 of the Customs act, 1969 and the accused was arrested for further investigation in the smuggling charges.
