Customs foils bid to smuggle drugs to Saudi Arabia, two arrested

KARACHI: Chief Collector of Customs (Enforcement South) Muhammad Zahid Khokhar, Collector of Customs Preventative SM Tariq Huda, Additional Collector Customs JIAP Syed Asad Raza Rizvi, and Deputy Collector Customs Ali Raza Turabi held a joint press conference to brief the media about the seizure of 2,740 kilograms of amphetamine crystal and Pakistani currency amounting to Rs 157,000/ from the passengers leaving for Umrah.

According to the details, on the intervening night of 23rd and 24th June, the customs staff posted at the Karachi airport maintained strict vigilance after receiving reports that an attempt will be maid to smuggle contraband items through passengers leaving for Umrah.

At 0718 on June 24, 2016 a group of eight passengers crossed the Air Port Security Force (ASF) scanning machine and were crossing through customs area where a customs supervisory officer intercepted two passengers namely Muhammad Usman Ghani holding passport UA4131811 with a hard top Delsey brand suite case and Shaharyar Saleem holding passport Ni JS5759481 with a hard top Vouger brand suit case of grey colour who were traveling to Jeddah by PK 761.

The Customs officers asked them to declare where they are carrying any narcotics or other contraband items in baggage or on their person to which they denied. However, being dissatisfied by their declaration, their suite cases were examined. The other six passengers of the said group stood a yard ahead in front of the ANF counter waiting for the clearance of their companion.
