Customs foils bid to smuggle gold from Dubai

LAHORE: The Collectorate of Customs Preventive has foiled a bid to smuggle 3.14kg gold from Dubai to Pakistan via Shaheen Airline.

According to details, the customs officials, including Amjad Ali Chaudhry, Sajad Bukhari, Nazir Ahmad and Muhammad Botta, intercepted a passenger Irfan Tariq of Lahore Cantt and recovered gold worth Rs 12.5 million on misusing green channel at the Allama Iqbal International Airport.

The passenger, coming from Dubai, was boarded on Shaheen Airline flight No-767. Accused Irfan Ali was found with the gold jewelry hidden in his under-garments very tactfully. The customs authorities upon suspicion intercepted him and presented him in front of the Deputy Collector of Customs Usman Bajwa, who recovered gold ornaments in the presence of two witnesses.

The customs seized the gold on failure to produce duty clearance documents, arrested the accused, and registering a case under Customs Act 1969.
