ISLAMABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate staff foiled a bid to smuggle 250 gram of heroine worth Rs 2.5 million through a parcel booked at International Mail Office, Chaklala Garrison.
Additional Collector Khawaja Khuram Naeem informed that the custom staff deputed at Benazir Bhutto International Airport intercepted a suspicious parcel No CB031717431PK during examination. The officials opened the parcel and recovered powder looking like heroin.
The substance was sent to laboratory for proper specification where it was confirmed as heroin. Later, the official investigated the matter and found that the said parcel was booked by Tahir Ali from Ashrat Road near Hassan Abdal, Rawalpindi
The additional collector said that the customs staff was trying to apprehend the principal suspect in the case, besides tracing the gang involved in smuggling of drugs.
Islamabad Customs Collector Dr Arslan Subuctageen appreciated the performance of the customs staff deputed at airport. The collector also announced the reward for the all staff from Grade 1 to 16 and above, the additional collector said.
An FIR has been lodged against the above mentioned consigner with Customs Investigation and Prosecution Branch under Customs Act, 1969. Raids to arrest the accused are being conducted by the Investigation and Prosecution.
